On the following public pages in the submenu I’ll give some hints and recommendations for installations and usage of Linux and Windows on a home computer. Furthermore I’ll share some of the experiences I made with these operating systems in setting up them for me and several friends. Thus we can use these notices, when we setup new systems and for reasons of age do not exactly remember what we had done in the past. The intention behind is to maintain a well-functioning working environment — as simple as possible — for more creative activities than configuring PCs. The password protected pages are for partners in professional projects.

Regarding Linux I will focus on the widely used distribution Linuxmint Mate for a home computer. With other Linux distributions – especially for Ubuntu, MX Linux and Debian – all works completely analogous, since Debian is “the mother” of the others. As my current server here I chose Debian 12, which needs less than three GB for the OS to run.

If you want to copy the root commands shown on the following pages and paste them into a command line, you can copy them from this file

Download File with Root-Commands.

The commands are not exactly displayed on the screen, since two consecutive minus signs are merged by the editor.

With regard to Windows I limit myself to a few aspects on installation, data security and making virtual harddisks of existing systems with installed software and user contents.
